What animals make the best/worst pets?

I love my cats and dog. Each one serves a different purpose. Charlotte was the first, she’s the queen, the boss, the HBIC. She dgaf and it shows. Red is our scaredy cat. He hates all people, but doesn’t hiss. He just runs off. He is also the one who can sleep through the night with me and the day with Rich. He never complains and always comes when he is called. He is the greatest hunter. What cat do you know that drags winter up flights of stairs to lay them gently at their master’s door? Red does. He is also the one who drags my yarn balls out of containers meant to keep them away from him. He “gets the ball rolling” and opens the door for Sox to make trouble with. So speaking of Sox, he’s the one that epitomizes “curiosity killed the cat”. He is constantly into everything from the yarn balls to salad greens. He’s the one who must be looking and roaming and just not being still. Until he crashes, because he is a kitten after all, so his naps last hours but when I throw back the curtains and raise the blinds, he’s the first one to the window trying to catch a glimpse of the birds or squirrels.

Then Ori. He’s my literal sidekick. He lays right beside me and follows me wherever I go. No matter what I’m doing, there he is. He’s tolerated so much over the past 5 years, and honestly, we didn’t even think he’d make it this long. He has gained weight with me, lost weight with me; he’s learned to lay still and how to get my attention when I’m dead asleep. He is the only one who has been beside me every hour of every day since he came to our home and I am so so grateful for his companionship. I wish I could do more for him, but at this point, I’ll just do what I can and I know that as long as he’s by my side, he’s happy.

Horses are wonderful but they are more suited to work, rabbits are very snuggly, but they can’t be left without supervision so I guess cats and dogs make the best pets for me.
