Dear Bongo, 

You became part of our family before our first child.  You watch over our home, warning all who enter that if they stand still long enough, they might be stuffed.  You proudly display dog tags from the sailor who provided this life for us.  You scared my Momma when she looked in the truck window in search of her newest grand baby.  You need dusting occasionally, which I gladly do.  I thank you for the meat you provided, for the pride you gave my husband, when he harvested you.  Thank you for bringing two friends closer together.  Occasionally, you scare someone who didn’t notice you hanging around, and then, all of a sudden looked up.  But on this day, the one in the picture, you really were a trooper.  The boy had gotten a special present for Christmas and could not stop flying it.  He wasn’t really thrilled when I made him wait so that I could snap this picture before taking the chopper out of your antlers.  By your look, I don’t think you were thrilled either.  I do enjoy you, and I’m glad you weren’t injured by this crash.  I hope you’ll be around for years to come, watching our kids grow, laughing at all the gray hair they bring us.  You’re part of the family now Bongo, and I’m glad.
