I'm Gonna Be A Farmer

Random conversations at bedtime.  Tonight, as I was giving the kids a pre-bedtime rundown, my daughter suddenly announced that she was going to be a Vet.  And my son then said that he will be a ‘struction worker.  Then, as quickly as the conversation started, the daughter said that no, she didn’t want to be a vet, she wanted to be a farmer.

“Why?” I asked her.

“So I can sleep all day.”  She spoke.  “Farmers can sleep as long as they want.”

When they’re dead.”  I wanted to say.  But that’s not appropriate to say to a six-year-old.  And so, I just giggled and said, “Ya think so?”

“Yeah” she said.

And so, I let it go.  But I wonder how she produced that farce.  I wonder what makes her think that farmers, or anyone else for that matter, get to sleep all day.  One day, she will come to see what Farmers (and other people) really do.

They are more than just overalls, boots, and hats that come from the farm supply store.  They are more than hay sticks shooting out of their mouths like they are portrayed on TV.

Farmers are so much more than that.  I should know because I love one. 💜
