Summer Survival

I’ll probably have a completely different post at the end of summer, but here are the ten senses that I hope to use to survive summer this year!

10.  A sense of humor.  Because it’s summer, so we need to relax a little and laugh a lot!
9.  A sense of balance.  Just because it’s summer does not mean that we need to forget that we are still in the process of learning.  Whether it be books or social, if we’re not learning, we’re not growing… and who wants to stay in this stage of life forever?
8.  A sense of service.  When it’s summer, there are so many things to do, so much to think about.  I hope to spend some time this summer working with my kids to better their community.  I also hope that they will see that it’s okay to do something and expect nothing in return.
7.  A sense of adventure.  To the park, to the zoo, to the timber.  Wherever we may roam this summer, I hope to point out the adventure and the excitement that is all around us.
6.  A sense of peace.  I also want to implement a quiet time that is different from nap.  A time for us to reflect on our day, our week, our lives.
5.  A sense of play.  Because what is summer if we don’t just play once in a while.
4.  A sense of rest.  To stop and take a rest now and then.  To sleep in, to sleep early.  Let’s face it, I’m tired!
3.  A sense of family.  Because to me, there’s nothing more precious than those who share our story.
2.  A sense of community.  I hope to teach my children how to live in community with others.
1.  A sense of responsibility.  My biggest challenge will be to teach my children to be responsible for themselves.  I can only pray that I will be able to lead by example!

What activities, values, or survival tips do you have for the summer?
