The fairy didn’t come.
That’s okay, i planned on cooking anyway!
So today, Beef went to work on the other farm again (he’s worked there the past three days this week), and i got up to have my quiet time. No such luck. A1 must have “daddy radar”, and as soon as he kissed me goodbye, she was up and looking for him.
After fixing her breakfast, we had our devotions and reading of the Word. Then we cleaned around the house a little (i had been deep cleaning, and re-arranging things all week), and i made a few phone calls while A1 played happily in her pack’n’play.
i have considered having a pet again, mostly to introduce A1 to God’s creatures and our authority over them, which includes the responsibility of caring for them. Today, we went to the pet store, where she looked at snakes and mice and bunnies, but she was enamoured with fish. Mostly the sparkly, shiny fish. She really wanted a coi or another huge kind of fish, but since i have no clue about the care of such fish, we opted for a lovely Beta.
We have not yet named this fish. i would love to come up with a name relating to Easter, but as of yet, have no clue. Beef suggested just calling it “Easter”, but i vetoed that option.
i have called it “semane” (pronounced Semany)short for Gethsemane, but i’m not sure if it’s going to stick. If you have any suggestions of a name relevant to Easter, please comment about it.
After picking up A1’s fish, we headed over to the local department store to pick up a tank and some random things i forgot to get last night. Think handsoap and shampoo. After that, we headed over to the neighboring grocery store, to pick up a birthday cake for tonight’s party, and added a very delicious looking watermelon to the fold.
We came home, where Beef returned shortly, and A1 took a brief nap. Long enough for me to get a load of laundry and dishes done, and she woke up long enough to watch us eat a quick lunch, and then went and took a nap with her daddy.
After i folded yet another load of laundry and took a shower, i opened the bedroom door to see A1 giggling in her room.
i jumped online to catch up with my blogger friends, and put sauce over the meat, put in the vegetables and started preparing the salad and fruit.
Soon after, Beef’s family started arriving. First was Uncle, with a lovely vegetable pizza in hand. Then came Aunt Minner, Uncle D and Lil Man, with Grammy and Grampy not far behind. In fact, they arrived pretty much at the same time.
We sat down to eat, and i am just not good at formalities, so everyone was pretty much wondering what to do. Just dig in, and away we went.
The menu was Ham Balls, Grammy’s special potatoes (i can’t even begin to describe how good these are), some people call them party potatoes, Green Bean Casserole, Salad, Watermelon and of course, Vegetable Pizza. After dinner, which was said to be yummy (i don’t eat the stuff, i just cook it!) Line and Lil Man played nicely together on the floor.
We continued to visit for a while, and then have birthday cake and ice cream. Grammy was quick to note that my cake was wonderfully made, and it appeared as though i spent a lot of time working on it. When i told her that i had, we both laughed. The truth of the matter is that i intended to make an angel food cake from scratch (like Grammy’s), but as i held her recipe card in my hand, i just felt like i was incapable. i made the ham balls (her recipe), and just felt that trying to replicate two of her recipes in one meal would be pushing it. So i cheated on the cake. It was still good! And so was the cookies ‘n cream ice cream we dished up. After cake and ice cream, we visited some more, and looked through photo albums, while remeniscing about old times. “Who’s that” was asked more than once, because it’s hard to tell ourselves apart from our siblings sometimes. And after answering those questions, we took a couple of shots to add to Line’s photo album:
After the photoshoot, we found out how jealous Lil Man can be of his Grammy, when she decided to hold A1 for a bit. Lil Man let us all know that he was not happy. But it could have been because it was getting late. A1 took a bath, and Grammy and Grampy stopped in to see how our little swimmer goes crazy in the water. Laughing and squealing and kicking the tub. She’s a riot in there! Grammy looked like she had been to a Shamu show, covered in water sprinkles after the bath. And then everyone went home. A1 was tired, and fell asleep as Beef rocked her for a bit.
The house is once again quiet, but i am sure missing everyone’s voice. It was so nice to have a housefull of people. For once, we could have a dinner here, and people could really come! :)
