As i watch with the world, this most historic moment, i can’t help but think about this man, and the million plus people who turned out to witness this event.
My first thought is that i hope people do not put their hope and faith in one man. Any man. For all people have faults, and ultimately, no person here on Earth is perfect. Don’t misunderstand, please. i wish this office all the best, i hope they succeed in bringing about good and fulfilling the promises they are making to the people. But these things, these promises are temporal. The office, the cars, the clothes, the house, the assistants… you name it, the designation – it is fleeting. Time will go by in a blink, and it will be people will be on the campaign trail once again. i hope that people put their faith and hope where it belongs, and where it is SURE to reap. i hope that people will know that there is only One who can solve the world’s problems. Yes, we can do our part, and we should be doing our part. But we can not hang our hopes or the results or our goals, our dreams; whether or not we are comfortable, whether or not we have what we want, or even what we need – on one man.
My second thought is about all the “hoopla”… back to the One who can solve the world’s problems… will He get driven to His speech in a reinforced, swanky limousine, pimped out with “TRINITY” or “JC” and a seal on the side? Will there be an announcer as he walks the streets? Will His bride come out in droves to meet Him? Will we be ready and waiting, willing to stand in freezing temperatures for hours on end just to catch a glimpse of Him? Will we shout and scream and chant His name? Will we fall on our knees in admiration and honor? Will we sit at a table and commune with Him? Will we dance next to Him in celebration? It certainly didn’t happen that way the first time.
What have we done today to improve our situation? What do we know today, what do we do today that will ensure that we won’t miss the procession, or worse, that we wouldn’t be excluded from the festivities! I’m pretty sure there will be no ticket scalping for Heaven.
Eye of the needle people. Eye of the needle.
i know that most of my life, i wouldn’t have fit through the eye. I probably wouldn’t have been able to hit the eye if He opened it up like the Panama Canal! And He knows that i’ve been way too busy to make it to the procession on time.
Yes, today is definitely a day of change for me. But the change isn’t going to depend on an oath someone else takes. No, this change depends on me, and an oath i made.
One part of the speech i remember particularly well from today, and that is, “we must put away childish things”.
And so, i am off to put away my childish things, and take up the message of Paul, when he wrote this, which was to remind the people of Corinth to change their focus from the temporary to the Eternal.
