Since today was the first snow of the season, we decided to “tag along” with my sister and her two oldest boys as they picked out their Christmas Tree. i have never been traipsing through the woods to pick out a tree, never have been to a tree farm… so this was a “first” i was able to share with A1. Personally, i prefer the fake trees, because i know it will still look as beautiful on New Year’s Day as it did the day after Thanksgiving, and because i’m quite sure i could possibly kill the tree before Christmas (which would definitely be a bah humbug!), i just don’t want to take the chance. Beef’s mom had a few real trees over the years, but my middle sister “Aunt Bee”, always has had a real tree. Back to the events…
We visited Morning Star Farms, and you can visit their website by clicking the name. i wouldn’t link to just any old thing we do, but this is a special farm, and anyone who lives in this state, should make it a trip. Regardless of time of year, Miss Kathy assures me that there is plenty to do. They even have field trips! Miss Kathy was a Conservationist, and when i was a schoolgirl, she visited and talked to us about Conservation, and shared with us MANY cool facts about nature, and wildlife. Anyway…
As we pulled up to the Trading Post, i remember asking Beef, “Do you think somebody really lives out here?” Don’t get me wrong, it is BEAUTIFUL, and truly God’s country, but it is out there! (coming from someone who thinks we live far enough off the highway!) Of course someone really does live there, and i would love to buy that place some day. Beef would just love to buy the Trading Post, and move it over to our yard, but i have assured him, that one day, when we have a farm of our own, we will build him his own “man cave”/wood cabin/shed thingy.
After discussing the beauty of our surroundings, we got out and began searching for the perfect tree. Since she has two little ones, she didn’t want a giant, full tree this year, for fear that they might attempt to climb it, and pull it over on themselves… so our eyes were peeled for a mini-champion.
After Beef found the winner, and Aunt Bee agreed, the boys and i headed over to watch as he chopped it down by hand. All the way, our darling daughter is wrapped up in what her daddy calls a papoose, however, i would dare to call it a pink and fuzzy straight jacket! At any rate, she is smiling as the snowflakes tickle her cheeks. After the tree falls, Beef drags it back and loads it up, and my sister, her boys and the baby and i all head into the Trading Post for some complimentary hot chocolate, home made apple cider, (which cooks on the wood stove), and candy canes for the boys. WOW! What a wonderful day it truly was. i am so thankful my sister shared this part of her holiday with me and my family. The only thing that would have made the day better would have been if her husband and their babies could have been there with us… oh well, maybe next year!
